Devlog 2: Finished prototype

This week was all about finishing our art bible, game design and initial prototype

Art

For the art, we worked on finishing up the Art Bible 100%. There were quite some issues along the way, textboxes not working along habing us to rewrite some pages completely and accidentally saving out pages in different resolutions forcing us to go through the entire saving process of converting psd's into pdf's and combining those pdf's all over again.

After fully finishing up the Artbible, we already went on to do our initial work on making the environment and the props to test out our art bible workflow.

We made an island with some trees on, no texturing yet, to see if it would work out. In the end we were able to make the island looks authentic from every angle saving us time in the future to make more islands. We also made a Teddybear, fully modeled and textured to fully go through the workflow of our chosen art.

Prototype

The game worked, there were falling blocks but it could be more fun! We decided to make the blocks fall slower so that the player can jump on them while they fall. This left us with more water and more jumpspace which is awesome.

The movement has been made more responsive, the camera follows the player on a vertical level and the level has a variable speed that depends on how far the player is from the water.

The player was sometimes placed in a scenario where there was a block between the camera and the player, blocking the viewport. These blocks are now semi-transparent. If a case arrises where you still can't see enough, you can rotate the camera -90 or 90 degrees.

Press R to restart and don't get hit on your head!

See you next week where we transition into production phase!
